Physical Education
At Five Acres Primary School, our PE curriculum reflects our vision of Learning Together, Growing Together, Thriving Together. We aim to inspire a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity while developing the skills, confidence and resilience pupils need to lead healthy, active lives. Through a broad and engaging curriculum, children learn to challenge themselves, work collaboratively and strive to achieve their personal best.
Intent- Learning Together
We want all pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to participate confidently in a wide range of physical activities. Through high-quality PE, children learn the importance of physical and mental wellbeing, teamwork, respect and perseverance. Our curriculum promotes healthy lifestyles and provides opportunities for every child to experience success, develop resilience and build a lifelong appreciation of being active.
Implementation- Growing Together
PE is delivered through the Get Set 4 PE scheme, ensuring clear progression of knowledge and skills from EYFS to Year 6. Pupils participate in at least two hours of high-quality PE each week and experience a broad range of activities including dance, gymnastics, athletics, games, swimming and outdoor adventurous activities. Learning is enriched through sports competitions, festivals, after-school clubs and residential experiences, enabling children to apply their skills in both cooperative and competitive settings. Swimming provision ensures pupils have the opportunity to meet the national expectation of swimming 25 metres before leaving primary school.
Impact- Thriving Together
Children leave Five Acres as confident, active and resilient learners who understand the importance of physical activity for their health and wellbeing. They demonstrate strong sporting values, work effectively as part of a team and show determination when facing new challenges. Through regular assessment and progressive learning experiences, pupils make sustained progress in their physical development and are equipped with the skills, confidence and motivation to remain active throughout their lives.
