Five Acres Primary

Learning Together. Growing Together. Thriving Together.

Literacy

Intent

At Five Acres Primary School, we believe literacy is at the heart of learning. We aim to develop confident readers, purposeful writers and effective communicators who enjoy reading, writing and language. Through a carefully sequenced curriculum, children build the knowledge, skills and vocabulary needed to succeed across the curriculum and beyond.

Implementation

Children learn through high-quality texts, rich discussion and explicit teaching. We teach phonics through Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised, alongside structured approaches to reading, writing, spelling and handwriting. Pupils are given regular opportunities to read widely, develop their vocabulary and write for a range of purposes and audiences. Assessment is used throughout lessons to identify next steps and ensure all children are supported and challenged appropriately.

Impact

Our pupils become fluent readers, confident writers and articulate communicators. They develop a love of reading, the ability to express their ideas effectively and the literacy skills needed for the next stage of their education. Through learning together, growing together and thriving together, children leave Five Acres equipped to succeed both in school and beyond.
