Five Acres Primary

Learning Together. Growing Together. Thriving Together.

History

Intent

At Five Acres Primary School, we aim to inspire children to become curious and thoughtful historians. Through learning about Britain’s past and the wider world, pupils develop an understanding of chronology, change, diversity and the experiences of others. We want children to make meaningful connections between historical events, their own lives and the world around them.

Implementation

History is taught through a carefully sequenced curriculum that builds knowledge and skills over time. Children explore significant people, events and societies through enquiry-based learning, using sources, evidence and discussion to think critically and ask questions. Prior learning is revisited and built upon, helping pupils make links across topics and deepen their understanding of the past.

Impact

Children leave Five Acres with a secure chronological understanding of history and the ability to think and work as historians. They can analyse evidence, explain change over time and make informed comparisons between different periods and cultures. Through learning together, growing together and thriving together, pupils develop curiosity, empathy and a greater understanding of their place in the world.
